It’s been a little disjointed here of late.
My friend Patty left her son’s wedding early to return home from New York while she knew she could beat Irene to Vermont. I am so glad she did as main route over the southern Green Mountains (Route 9) is closed indefinitely. From photographs of the damages shown on the news, it will be a major reconstruction project. So hard to see the whole state affected by that nasty woman, Irene. She came uninvited and left without helping with the cleanup. Many communities are still isolated–no way in or out except by helicopter.
Miraculously despite having their roads become river roads, Patty did not lose power! She’s lost some real estate to Irene and have a number of downed trees to deal with. But her house is undamaged and–with the help of her never-ceasing sump pump–the basement is even dry. She’ll be shoring up banks and bringing in loads of rip rap (the big piece kind.) The Connecticut river looks more like lava flow than sparkling water.
As bad as it sounds, I know my friend and the resilient little state of Vermont shall overcome. Sending you all positive thoughts and prayers.
Happy crafting and keep those creative juices running!
