by giving back to the community where it matters most. Fresno County School Superintendent Larry Powell, who unequivocally gives back to his school district…$800,000–what would have been his remuneration for subsequent three years ’til his tenure expiring in 2015. Read more here.
“How most do we need to keep accumulating?” asks Powell, 63.
“There’s no reason for me to keep stockpiling money.”
Instead of praising Mr. Powell for his generous gesture, some attacked his motive for early retirement and are shocked by what seems an excessively high salary compensation he received. Some even likes to see him give from his pension. Contrary to public belief, no, his pension does not kick in for another 3 years! He and his wife will live on the $30,000 voluntary pay cut a year with zero benefits. Mr. Powell is doing it for all the right reasons to ensure school programs he implemented would survive a financial crisis in his Californian districts. He is sharing his income with the students!
The Trust Gap: Why People Are So Cynical. Cynical. Geeez. How do people come to believe that others are so much less trustworthy than themselves? I for one applaud him for the contribution he makes, rather than what compensation he takes. Wish there is more Mr. Powell in the world!
