A little bit of this and, a little bit of that, makes a little bit of me.

Ravelympics 2010

…is a big deal for many knitters. It is an event that takes place on the knitting community of Ravelry during Olympic Games. What is the idea? Pick a project (or projects) that is/are a challenge to complete within the two-week time frame of Olympic Games. Don’t cast on until Opening Ceremonies and I have to finish before end of Closing Ceremonies. Teams all over the global form for the purpose of cheering each other on.

Since there isn’t a local team from my area, I joined Soggy Stitches in these categories:

  • WIP/UFO: WIP Dancing is the only event for WIP/UFO finishing. WIPs/UFOs entered in this event must be dormant (no work being done) starting January 12 until the Ravelympics begin.
  • FLYING CAMEL SPIN: An event for creating my own hand spun
  • DOWNHILL DYEING: An event for dyeing (or over-dyeing) yarn.
  • TBD: An event for my own new designs?

As a first-timer, I think I’ve gone bonkers…overly committed. Two weeks. Yep–bonkers. Nonetheless, away from home, I joined Mass Cast-On at 6 p.m. Pacific Standard Time, today,

Ravelympics 2010 Project 1

as Opening Ceremonies began in Vancouver! No casting-on before this moment (with an exception of WIP/UFO event entrees!) Lets see how many of these projects cross the finish line.

Are you looking for a challenge? Do you have the urge to make something great while connecting with other Ravelry members around the world?  Would you like to challenge yourself while embracing the Olympic spirit and is just whacked enough to play along with me? If so, come and join your fellow fiber artists in the Ravelympics 2010 group!

Happy crafting and keep those creative juices running!
